Turmeric a Natural Cancer Cure

The connection between super foods such as turmeric to fight cancer continues to be verified by scientists around the world. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. As diagnosed cases continue to rise, the urgency to find preventative and holistic treatments grows.

Known Cancer Causes
High fat, high cholesterol foods – uterus, colon and prostate cancer
Tobacco use – lung, mouth/throat, bladder and cervical cancer
Alcohol consumption – breast cancer
Obesity – prostate, colon, breast and lung cancer
Unprotected sex – HPV virus increases risk of vaginal, anal and cervical cancer
Environmental pollution – blood, breast, lung and thyroid cancer
Family history – breast, colon, ovarian and prostate cancer

The American Cancer Society estimates that 33% of women and 50% of men will be diagnosed with cancer at some point within their lifetime.

It is becoming more apparent scientifically that our own bodies – given the right fuel – can aid in the fight against cancer. The standard medical treatments for cancer – surgery and chemotherapy – endanger the entire body. The poison used to kill cancerous cells kills healthy cells at the same time, unable to tell the difference. The treatment is all too often worse than the disease itself.

Food is naturally processed by the body, giving it the fuel needed to prevent and treat cancer without throwing the rest of the body into distress. Using certain foods such as turmeric to fight cancer is especially effective.

Turmeric – and the chemical curcumin it contains – was proven to kill throat cancer cells during a study conducted by the Cork Cancer Research Centre and published in the British Journal of Cancer. Not only did the natural compound begin to destroy cancer cells within one day of introduction to lab mice, the cancer cells began to feed on themselves!

“Scientists have known for a long time that natural compounds have the potential to treat faulty cells that have become cancerous and we suspected that curcumin might have therapeutic value,” explained Dr. Sharon McKenna who lead the Cork team.

The rate of throat cancer has more than doubled in the United Kingdom since the 1970s due to obesity, alcohol consumption and acid reflux disease. Researchers are hopeful turmeric will help prevent the cause of 5% of cancer deaths in the United Kingdom.

Scientists at the University of Manchester believe that cancer – only prevalent since the 17th century – is due to man-made factors such as pollution and lifestyle choices.

In their examination of hundreds of mummies, only one case of cancer was discovered. Without surgical removal, mummies preserved during ancient times would still show evidence of cancer.

Faculty of Life Sciences professor, Rosalie David, explained further, “There is nothing in the natural environment that can cause cancer…so it has to be a man-made disease.”

It makes sense that by fortifying our bodies with good nutrition, regular exercise and healthy lifestyle choices will lower our overall risk of getting cancer.

Turmeric to fight cancer is not its only benefit. Researchers are also investigating the benefits of turmeric to treat a broad range of illness and disease – and initial results are promising.
